This is the last straw.
We have gritted our teeth at one corruption scandal after another during the last two years. We have called time and again for inquiries and investigations. We have watched this government grow more and more brazen about its thievery and more complacent about its ineptitude.
Enough! It is not a question of whether Gov. Singson can prove his allegations with documentary evidence. It is enough that an Estrada ally and crony has revealed the inner workings of the massive corruption that defines the Estrada government. It is enough that the President offers no defense except a flat denial and the charge that all this is politically motivated.
This is all that we have to say to you, Erap: You have done enough damage. Resign now or face the humiliation of an impeachment trial. Resign now and spare this country from a drawn-out impeachment process that will further drive the economy to its knees.
We challenge the Vice President to make a clear statement regarding her resignation from the Cabinet; to explain her well-known ties with another gambling lord, Bong Pineda. The last thing we need is to pass the torch from one jueteng administration to another.
We appeal to all progressives in government, to members of the Cabinet and other appointed officials with a sense of decency, to resign now. Do not lend any more of your integrity to this morally bankrupt leadership.
We challenge the opposition to follow through and not merely exploit this issue for short-term political gain. It is not enough for them to join the bandwagon on this issue but to take concrete measures available within the democratic process.
We call on the Filipino people to unite, to voice their outrage and revoke the mandate of a President who has ruined this country with his greed and incompetence.
